Cape Town – 27 September 2016: It’s time to pull out your Batman and Supergirl suits, as Super Heroes from across Cape Town gear up again for the St Luke’s Hospice Super Hero Trail Run, set to take place on Sunday 20 November 2016, at UCT Upper Campus, Rugby Field C in Rondebosch.
Capetonians young and old, are invited to dress up as their favourite Super Heroes at the event, in support of St Luke’s Hospice. Entrants can choose to compete on either the short (7km) or long (17km) route of the trail run, and there are loads of fabulous prizes for the best outfits.
The minimum age for children running independently in the short distance event (7km) is 12 years. Children younger than 12 years can participate, but will need to be accompanied by an adult, and there is also no time limit so families can walk the route. The minimum entry age for the long distance route (17km) is 16 years.
The St Luke’s Hospice Super Hero Trail Run is aimed at the whole family, and spectators and small children are also encouraged to dress-up in the spirit of the event.
The trail run’s ultimate aim is to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice, enabling them to continue caring for the terminally ill. Lily Visser, fundraising manager at St Luke’s Hospice, explains: “This fun filled event is a great platform to raise awareness of St Luke’s Hospice and the services we have provided for the Western Cape Community for over 35 years. All monies raised go to the costs associated with providing free palliative care services to over 900 patients each month. Donations also go towards our inward patient care needs, our Drug Resistant TB Centre and our holistic 13 month bereavement support programme.”
“Dressing up as your favourite Super Hero and completing a trail with the background of Cape Town, UCT and Lions Head is an experience not to be missed – It’s fun for the whole family. Kids from 12 years and up can join the 7km trail run and there is no time limit so families can walk the route together,” adds Visser.
Super Heroes can register at Sportsman’s Warehouse Rondebosch, on Friday 18 November from 12:00-17:00 and Saturday 19 November from 08:30-14:00. The long course costs R330 and the short course costs R230.
The entry fee includes a R100 SANParks levy, and all proceeds go to St Luke’s Hospice.

The first touch of calming hand, the second a finger wipes away those tears, that warm embrace, that special smile, the reassuring glance and that nod to say that it’s over now but that everything is going to be okay.”
