Although only signing up for 1/3 of the action, two of South Africa’s elite trail runners, Megan Mackenzie and AJ Calitz will get to experience the electrifying vibe of South Africa’s premier off-road triathlon, the Fedhealth XTERRA by toeing the line at the XTERRA Trail Run in Grabouw on Sunday, 26 February 2017.
“The XTERRA Trail Run is something different,” says Mackenzie. “It’s a short, sharp 12.5km race that sounds like a lot of fun. It’s also totally out of my comfort zone. I have a lot of respect for XTERRA athletes and am keen to be part of the amazing XTERRA vibe. Maybe one day I’ll push myself right out of my comfort zone and enter the XTERRA. For now I’m happy to watch and learn! My goal for the XTERRA Trail Run is to just have fun and learn from the speedsters! I’d like to see how I cope over such a short, fast and sharp race.”
Although his preferred trail run distance is anything above 50km, Calitz admits that this won’t be the first time that he takes part in the XTERRA Trail Run. “The race is short, fast and sweet,” says Calitz. “I love the Grabouw mountains and the trails are world class. I’ll be using the XTERRA Trail Run as a training run. It’s the perfect AfricanX preparation session.”
Both Bos Sport ambassadors will be back in action in March at the 2017 Cell C AfricanX Trailrun presented by ASICS, South Africa’s premier three day stage trail run.
