Garmin® Introduces the fēnix® 5 series

Garmin Southern Africa today announced fēnix 5S, fēnix 5 and fēnix 5X, adding more watches designed with athletes and adventurers of all sizes in mind to its popular line of multisport GPS wearables.

The fēnix 5S is lighter, sleeker and smaller than previous models – perfect for small wrists without sacrificing multisport functionality. The fēnix 5X boasts preloaded wrist-based mapping; and the compact fēnix 5, like other fēnix watches, is feature-packed for training and many sports, ready to take on any challenge with its new athletic design.

All the fēnix 5 models are 24/7 wearable with extended battery life1, daily activity tracking2, Garmin Elevate™ wrist heart rate technology, and a host of smart connected features3. Users can easily switch between stylish leather and metal accessory bands to sporty silicone bands in seconds without tools, thanks to the new QuickFit™ bands. With the new fēnix 5 line-up, users now have a watch that compliments their adventures, sports and their style.

“After years in the wearables market, Garmin knows that athletes and adventurers come in all sizes, which is why we have designed the new line of fēnix 5 watches to fit every wrist and every workout,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of worldwide sales. “This is the first-time Garmin has created a variety of sizes out of one product line so now users don’t have to choose between getting the features they want and wearing a watch that fits.

fēnix 5S

The first fēnix designed with a focus on female athletes and athletes with smaller wrists, the fēnix 5S is a sleek, smaller-sized watch with a clean, sporty look. At 42mm, fēnix 5S is small and comfortable for petite wrists, without compromising on advanced training and multisport features. Both stylish and functional, fēnix 5S is available in Silver and Goldtone with a variety of choices of QuickFit bands in different styles and materials. There are even more accessory bands available for all kinds of fēnix 5 models (sold separately), which makes the new QuickFit bands a great addition. Users can mix and match between their choice of leather, metal or silicone watchbands and switch between them in seconds with no tools needed.

fēnix 5

Measuring 47mm, the fēnix 5 has a new athletic design and is more compact than previous models of the fēnix 3 product line. All fēnix 5 models will come with a new set of training features accessible through the new performance widget. fēnix 5 models are available in a variety of colours and finishes and for the most ambitious multisport athletes fēnix 5 offers a Performer Bundle, adding a HRM Tri chest strap that allows to capture advanced running dynamics and heartrate while swimming.

fēnix 5X

Preloaded with routable TopoActive Africa mapping the fēnix 5X measures at 51mm and comes in an impressive ultra-rugged steel design. Each of the new fēnix 5 models is built to withstand the elements with a tough stainless steel EXO™ bezel and a forged steel rear case and all models are water rated to 100 meters4. The fēnix 5X features the full set of training and multisport features and adds new advanced navigation and mapping. To give athletes and adventurers the extra confidence they need when venturing off the grid, fēnix 5X provides situational awareness through innovative navigation features that make the most out of topo mapping on the wrist.

All the new fēnix 5 models come preloaded with multisport features for running, cycling, swimming, skiing and more. In addition to the wide variety of sports profiles, all three fēnix 5 models have daily activity tracking, so users can wear their fēnix as a daily timepiece and a rugged training tool. Built-in navigation features include a barometric altimeter, 3-axis compass and gyroscope.

For the competitive athlete, all fēnix 5 models include enhanced metrics for running, cycling and swimming and support Strava live segments. The new performance widget helps users keep relevant training stats right at their fingertips. New training features include the monitoring of training status, training load and Training Effect 2.0. A new, fully integrated Garmin Elevate wrist heart rate sensor provides improved 24/7 heart rate monitoring without the need of a chest strap.

In addition to the multiport and training features, the fēnix 5, 5S and 5X boast a variety of smart connected features. When paired with a compatible smartphone, users can get call, text and email smart notifications right on their wrist. All fēnix 5 models are compatible with Connect IQ so users can customise their watch with apps, widgets, data fields and watch faces. To take watch faces one step further, fēnix 5 watches are compatible with the Face It app, so users can set their favourite photo as their watch face.

The fēnix 5S, 5 and 5X will be available mid Q2 2017. The fēnix 5 and fēnix 5S will have a suggested retail price of R10 499.00 for the mineral glass versions; the fēnix 5S Sapphire and fēnix 5 Sapphire versions will retail at R11 999.00, the fēnix 5 Sapphire Performer Bundle will retail at R13 999.00 and fēnix 5X Sapphire will have a suggested retail price of R 13 499.00.
